How do you do?
KISUA gifted me this lovely head scarf when I was out at the She Leads Africa event in Joburg! I was excited and so I got this brilliant idea to try different styles with it! I figure this will have me and YOU covered for future “What do I do with this hair/braids” days!
In fact, these styles add a lot of versatility while wearing a protective style. It can get seriously boring when you don’t have the afro to play with, which is what led me to this post. SO, let me know which head wrap style is your fav in comments! 😀
1. THE HIPPIE
Super easy boho-chic style and a personal go-to! Simply fold the fabric into desired size and wrap around with one one or two knots at the back. This was one tie and it felt comfortably snug. I think it’s mostly because of the type of fabric. Tie it until it feels comfy and not so tight that you end up with a headache at the end of the day 😀 Ya’ll feel me! You can also make the band thinner, covering your forehead less, great simple look!
2. THE CLASSY CLASSIC GIRL
A lot of sistas wear this look. Especially with all the hair wrapped up under the scarf. It’s a classy, classic look and I guarantee you can never go wrong with this look. The trick here is making sure the hair or braids are pulled back, a ‘cleaner’ look that exposes more face as opposed to what you’ll see in the next style…
3. THE CLASSIC-HIPSTER
This style is one of my favorites. Similar to the classy classic but with a bit more hair to show off. Indie with an afro twist which is great as a summer festival look! Choose this style if you want to show off your tresses. It’s also simple to put together, you can either cover your whole head with the wrap and the ends of the scarf being tied at your forehead (or you can make the scarf a band like I did here) then twirl, twirl, twirl and tuck!
4. EGYPTIAN QUEEN
I love this look. Stumbled upon it as I was trying something else. So unique. I made a band out the scarf, wrapped it around the head and made a bow with the ends on one side of my head. I tucked away the one end of the bow and ended up with this look! Never seen this one before, that’s for sure! 😀 Yey me! hahah If you’ve seen it, pretend you haven’t, don’t bust my bubble okay 😀 😀
5. THE ‘LET ME STEP OUT REAL QUICK’
The title says it all. You need to get the heck out of the house, need something quick and cute. Get your tresses into two big braids or twists and wrap the scarf either fully over the head or into a head band and GO!
6. GIRL’S NIGHT OUT / 90’S AFRO CHIC
This gives me BOOM-SHAKA and Janet Jackson vibes at the same time. Love it. Great for date-night or girl’s night out, whatever have you, when you want to dress up and keep an Afro-chic look. This will be great with an afro too! Imagine a twist-out coming out as bangs in the front and a high puff coming out at the top! I love love love this look. Don’t you?!
Okay, I’m officially going to give you the same style series as this one with my fro once the protective style comes out!
7. THE LOC’D UP SISTA!
Alright!! Last but certainly not least is this dope style, “The loc’d up sista”. Named it this because it has MEGA JAH SISTA vibes. Feel me? 😀 I imagine long long locs beautifully pouring out of this wrap . I started off by tying the hair up in a high pony tail, then working the scarf magic. I wrapped it all around and finished off with the ends at the top by that imaginary hair band! Feel me?
Yeah, I know, instructional video woulda been better but guess what? I believe in YOUR imagination and creativity 😀
